In a desert of mediocrity and ever decreasing quality discovering the ultra rare diamond in the rough is something to be completely and totally cherished; Sherman Oaks Holistic Oasis (also known as SOHO) — which is located right off of Burbank Blvd. — is such a place. As a longtime medical marijuana patient, I’ve seen my share of clinics and dispensaries and true standouts are difficult to pinpoint — many enjoy enhanced (and undeserved in my opinion) reputations that are mostly just ballooned by overhype. As far as SOHO is concerned, all one really has to do is take a quick glance at the quality of the marijuana on hand; it is truly a sight to behold the dizzying amount of connoisseur level strains on display — all drenched in frosty trichomes and reeking of premium cannabis. Sherman Oaks Holistic Oasis is the real deal, free of frills and with the majority of strains locked in at $45 an eighth (minus a few reserve strains that cap out at $50) I can’t help but be impressed to see this level of cannabis available at these donations. Curbside parking is easily accessible, and the location is plainly visible and clearly marked by a red “V.I.P.” sign hanging over the face of the clinic; once inside check-in and registration is painless, cutting quickly to the anticipation of being greeted by the immense quality of the buds behind the lobby door.
The bud room is decorated by vibrant green walls, wood panel flooring, a plush leather couch, small table, and L-shaped glass display case that is filled to the brim with a variety of pipes, rolling papers, concentrates, and edibles. The main attraction of course is the cannabis itself which is on display in neatly arranged glass mason jars on wall shelving directly under the day’s current menu. The staff is extremely cool and a pleasure to deal with — knowledgeable and attentive, yet laidback and not too pushy, which is what I consider to be ideal. I’ve never felt rushed or anything of the sort whenever I’ve found myself at Sherman Oaks Holistic Oasis. With that all said, the weed is phenomenal and goes above and beyond for the treatment of my medical ailments which require significantly potent medication (as motorcycle mishaps tend to do unfortunately). Amazing quality is fused with extremely generous donation rates and I could not be happier.
As far as breaking down specific standout strains– which is everything that I’ve had the pleasure of consuming at SOHO– one in particular is the Art’s OG which is honestly one of the very best OG’s that I’ve tried during my years, and I’m a seasoned vet. Right off the bat, the nugs are just gorgeous and immediately eye-catching; they are caked with shimmering trichomes and almost pure white in appearance. The structure is a perfect representation of a legitimate OG, and the smell just screams the same — pine and fuel with notes of fresh citrus, yet crisp, clean, and devoid of that chemical residue smell that plagues the usual poorly flushed buds found elsewhere. Mouthwatering in appearance and smell, the Art’s OG is also a crownholder in terms of overall strength and effects. This is premium cannabis with massive expansion upon exhale and a lingering taste of that superb OG flavor profile — mellow lemon notes with sharp bursts of pine. Effects plant themselves firmly upon the initial hit and can be felt primarily behind the eyes; warm sensations set in, and the sharp cerebral effects spread throughout the body. The intensity continues to increase, with the heightened awareness tapering off into a mellow, sedated experience during the latter portion of the session. It’s an amazing smoke, and to me, even better when vaporized in a Silver Surfer Vaporizer or Vapor Bros. My jaw dropped when I found this level of quality for the price. Incredible job.
The Diablo Master — which is a cross of Diablo OG and Master Kush– is another all-star and again, one of the best representations that I’ve seen in terms of cannabis. It’s visually jawdropping, with layers upon layers of crystals just stacked upon one another. Hints of vibrant green and traces of purple poke out from under the insane amount of trichome layers, along with deep orange pistils that emerge here and there. The smell is amazing as well, buttery earth notes from the Master and traces of hash and lemon from the Diablo make a perfect combination. Effects-wise, this strain is unbelievably potent, making it the perfect choice for deep chronic pain, insomnia and other issues that call for a crushingly potent med that melts into a full couch lock and ultimately, sleep. It’s very sedative and powerful, and the taste — coffee, citrus, earth, and hash– is out of this world. This might just be my favorite choice at SOHO, I really believe it is that good and matches up with the best that I’ve tried in Southern California.
I’ve also been lucky enough to have sampled some of what is dubbed as SOHO’s Private Reserve, a limited premium in-house strain is exclusive to Sherman Oaks Holistic Oasis (of course, as the name implies). The bud structure is dense and dotted by fiery red hairs and a thick, shimmering coating of trichomes, which definitely seems to be a feature of everything that I’ve personally seen at this clinic. The smell is dominated by the familiar scent of Afghani Kush but there is a “nutty” richness to the smell that is particular to this bud. The taste falls in line, with a lingering earthiness and hash-like flavor profile. Immense stuff here, and the effects are particularly powerful and felt immediately. Another great choice for pain relief of all varieties, but particularly for those with debilitating levels of pain; the relief provided is unmatched by this and the aforementioned strains. As I also mentioned, the prices for this level of quality are incredible and are the very definition of kind and compassionate, a gesture that I’m sure the majority of the patient base will love.
As I said before, the quality all-around is AAA across the board, a feat that very few dispensaries or collectives can lay claim to. Other standouts include their Green Crack x Blue Dream cross, the Pure Kush, the 818, and one of my favorites in particular — the Sour Dawg (also known as Sourdog or Sourdawg). The lineage is legendary and well-known in cannabis circles — Sour Diesel and Chemdog, an inevitable and perfect match for a breeding project that requires ridiculously powerful marijuana. When grown well this strain can provide intensely potent cerebral effects with that has few, if any, rivals. This is perfect for the experienced user of cannabis. The smell of the Sour Dawg is pure funk; a mixture of diesel fuel, pure skunk, and gym socks. It is the unmistakeable smell of premium Chemdog and it means that you’ve discovered the holy grail. This taste of the Sour Dawg is sour citrus and fuel and the effects are incredible and can be felt immediately. Deep behind the eyes and cerebral, slightly cloudy but extremely powerful and stimulating. The end effect is a powerful indica like knockout that will leave one ready for sleep.
The concentrate selection at SOHO is formidable and they carry a variety of high-end CO2 extracted waxes, Pure Gold (98% THC), as well as kief and water-based hashes. A wax crafted from the quality of something like Art’s OG should speak for itself and it does that and more (shattering already high expectations). I’ve also seen waxes made from flowers such as GDP, King’s Kandy, and more and they all looked to be high quality. There is really not much more that can be said about Sherman Oaks Holistic Oasis that I haven’t already; it’s one of the premiere spots in California and the quality obtained is among the very best and truly upper-level. The prices are the icing on the cake, pushing SOHO into the very top spots. Incredible flowers at incredible prices is something that is not to be missed and can not be recommended enough. 5 stars easily.
